This former Robin, Jones and Whitman store, a company from the Jersey Islands, is definitely a heritage gem to discover! Dating from 1928, it retains all the charms of an old general store of its time. Here you will discover the lives of Gaspesian fishermen, as well as the workings of the triangular cod-fishing trade, the Gaspésie’s main economic source for nearly two centuries.
Upon opening the door you’ll discover an authentic period general store with its oak paneling, loaded with antiques and merchandise from the past. During the tour guides will show you around the store, its office, warehouse and as well as a barbershop which pays a tribute to the family’s paternal grandfather and the ironworks where you can contemplate the temporary exhibit “Histoire de Pêche”.
The animated tour is brought to life by a local group of animators in period attire. The General Store Museum promises you an encounter brimming with incredible anecdotes about the big and small stories of Gaspesian life! The General Store Museum looks forward to seeing you there…and hearing you laugh!
