Resume
Location

With its five welcoming Municipalities; Matapédia, Saint-André-de-Restigouche, Saint Alexis-de-Matapédia, Saint-François-d’Assise and L’Ascension-de-Patapédia, the Matapédia-et-les-Plateaux region forms the western part of the MRC d’Avignon, in the Gaspé region.

Located at the junction of the Matapédia and Restigouche rivers, Matapédia is a popular spot for salmon fishing. The rivers are also ideal for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding, either on your own or with Nature Aventure.

Matapédia is also the gateway to the Québec portion of the international Appalachian trail (SIA-QC), which totals 650 km and is the first Grande Randonnée itinerary in North America (GR®A1). The Municipality also boasts a number of ATV trails.

In winter, Matapédia offers snowmobile trails and Le Petit Chamonix, downhill ski center with tubing and a skating rink.

In terms of lodging and restaurant facilities, the municipality boasts an inn-café, a B&B, fishing camps and cottages, two campgrounds and a summer canteen.

Matapédia is currently the only Gaspesian municipality still served by VIA Rail Canada (to Halifax and Montreal).
