The L’Espace René-Lévesque is a space in New Carlisle dedicated to the memory and legacy of René Lévesque. René Lévesque grew up in New Carlisle on the Gaspé Coast. He was a war correspondent, a journalist, a radio and television host, a deputy and a minister for the Québec Liberal Party. He founded the Parti Québécois in 1968 and served as Québec’s premier from 1976-1985. This memorial is recognized by the Fondation de la maison René Lévesque and is located in New Carlisle where René Lévesque spent his childhood.
L’Espace René-Lévesque offers an encounter and experience with this exceptional man in a peaceful and luminous setting dedicated to remembrance, reflection and discovery.
The project national in scope, consists of a thematic interpretation park and a reception pavilion that will both consist and aim to present René Lévesque in relation to the evolution of modern-day Québec. The interpretative approach centers around his career, his thoughts and his actions, the major elements of his contribution to the Révolution tranquille, his greatest achievements and highlights his legacy.
